Daniel is the Academic Lead for Cyber Security at the University of Manchester, and director/co-founder of the IASME benchmark of information and cyber security governance for SMEs (an accreditation body for the Cyber Essentials). Daniel is an evangelist for useful standards and good practice, nursing organisations through ISO/IEC 27001. He was awarded a PhD for his work in information systems risk and is a Fellow of the Institute of Information Security Professionals. During 22 years at The National Computing Centre, he was architect of DTI’s Towards Software Excellence programme, developed international training, edited the UK’s national security breaches survey, and wrote international standards. More recently, Daniel revived The Ratio Club (an academic thought leadership group in which Alan Turing participated). Daniel also advises the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s on its aspirations for a resilient, cyber secure, digital community and economy and is part of the Cyber Foundry. He is a director of a programme training neurodiverse individuals in cyber security who go on to run a security operation centre for vulnerable people.
